To stand for something is to be subject to irony; mockery; laughter.

These days, it is strange to have serious values. Many men think it strange even to be serious at all.
|

Values and seriousness are, of course, linked.
|
|
|
|
Our race, cocooned in the shell of nuclear weapons and postwar priests, is dying. We are wasting away, rotting in cities and giving way at the faintest push of opposition.
